Leicester City FC transfer news: Riyad Mahrez move to Manchester City is OFF, according to reports

Manchester City have ended their interest in signing Leicester star Riyad Mahrez, according to reports.

Mahrez handed in a transfer request yesterday, which put the the Premier League leaders on red alert after Leroy Sane sustained an injury against Cardiff last weekend.

However, it is now claimed City are walking away from the deal as they were deterred by Leicester’s asking price.

The Algerian, who won the Premier League title with Leicester in the 2015/16 season, was linked with a move away from the club in the summer transfer window, but nothing ever materialised.

Sky Sports News reporter Ben Ramson said: “I’ve had it confirmed that Man City are walking away from Riyad Mahrez – the deal is off. The fee was ultimately a sticking point.

“I’m told Leicester were after a combined package of around £95m – cash plus a player. City were very interested in bringing in Mahrez but he will not be moving to City in this window.

“As with Alexis Sanchez, the club were not prepared to pay what they thought was over the market value. Fees were discussed but no formal bid was ever placed.”
