which of these artistes owned 2018? Teni, Zlantan Ibile, Barry Jay, Victor AD?

2018 was a year that had its highs and lows, a year wrapped up on diverse notes by several people. In the music industry, the year saw some new talents shoot their way to stardom. On this edition of Monday Trivia with lakezwrites, we will be looking at four of those talents. I hope that at the end, you will be able to pick out that one artiste that owned your 2018.
Here we go

Teni

Better known as Teni, the entertainer or Teni makanaki. Teni is 25 years old and has been making waves in the last few years. Teni is more than just a singer, she is a songwriter and drummer. 2018 was a swell year for the ‘case’ crooner.
Teni came to national limelight after the release of Case; the lyrics went down well with a lot of people alongside a beat that several folks loved. She then took matters to a whole new level when she partnered with Dr dolor to release ‘pray’. The soundtrack to the single was a hit in itself; simply irresistible. A critic was of the opinion that the song will remain evergreen, we will see how that goes though. Uyo Meyo was Teni’s last single for the year 2018; combining a splatter of her native Ekiti dialect and Yoruba, Teni delivered yet another masterclass.
Of course, such a talent like her does not go to waste in a nation that thrives on entertainment like Nigeria. She has headlined several shows and concerts. She was awarded rookie of the year at the 2018 edition of the Headies award and I won’t be surprised if she snatches the next rated award at the next edition.

Zlatan Ibile

Omoniyi Temidayo is a rapper and music composer, he is also a graduate of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic where he studied Business administration. At the age of 19, Zlatan emerged winner of the one mic campus tour organized by Airtel Nigeria.
It was until 2018 that he became widely accepted nationwide though. This acceptance came on the back of the ZANKU dance. The dance; an acronym for Zlatan Abeg No Kill Us is a very energetic dance step that requires a set of detailed legwork. Apart from his musical prowess, the ZANKU dance remains one of the reasons why he may the artiste of the year for a number of people. It must also be noted that I n the year 2018, Zlatan was able to work with the big guns in the music industry. That’s definitely a plus for him.

Barry Jhay

Born Oluwakayode Junior Balogun, Barry Jhay hails from Ayeye, Ibadan. As a creative songster, 2018 was a wonderful year for the ‘normal level’ crooner. He has shown himself as a creative artiste that can capture his listeners either through showy brag or silent introspection. Aiye Ole was a particular banger, not only did Barry capture the listeners. He also gave a dose of Yoruba wisdom that everyone can live by.
He moved on to Go down, where he borrowed the popular ‘pade mi ni sale’ line from master artiste Lagbaja. Barry Jay has been described as a lyricist that can melt the hardest heart. How was he in 2018 for you?

Victor AD

Victor AD hit song ‘wetin we gain’ was more like the hustler’s anthem in 2018. The song was hitting the airwaves and hitting it hard too. Victor Adere was born and bred in Lagos, the delta-state musician schooled in Lagos before attending the Federal Polytechnic Auchi in Edo state.
Victor started music professionally in 2014 but had to wait for 4 years until his big break. Earlier in the year 2018, he was featured on a track by Erriga, one of the biggest southern Nigerian rappers. He quickly leveraged on that to establish himself. While he was said to have written ‘wetin you gain’ in November of 2017, the release of the song changed the entire game for him. He is rumored to be working with Mavin superstar Tiwa Savage on the remix of the hit song.
Beyond the song, Victor has gone on to release other tracks. ‘wetin you gain’ still stands out for him in terms of acceptance and radio play though.

Four unique artistes who rocked 2018 and made the ears tingle with good music and set the feet to rhythmic Dance steps. Which of these four owned 2018 for you, do comment.
